DWI Services DWI Services are provided by McLeod Center as an opportunity for clients charged with DWI violations to receive treatment. McLeod Center provides affordable DWI services consisting of three different levels of care offered in both the morning and the evening: 20-hour, 40-hour and 90-hour. Residential services are also available. DWI Assessments Monday-Friday 8:30am—3:00pm Items needed for DWI Assessment · $100.00 cash, money order, check or credit · If issued outside of NC, DMV must be ordered from issuing state and is the client’s responsibility · Photo ID · Copy of judgment or copy of ticket with Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) results · Copy of Criminal Record
Twenty Hour Program Beneficial to first time offenders or clients with a limited history of substance use. · Cost: $350.00 · Two 2-hour sessions a week · 5 week program
Forty Hour Program Depending on the severity of the DWI or the number of DWI convictions/citations clients may be recommended for the 40-hour program to meet state DWI requirements. · Cost: $500.00 · Two 2-hour sessions a week · 10 week program
Ninety Hour Program If a DWI is severe, clients may be recommended for the 90-hour program in order to meet state requirements. · Cost: $700.00 · Three 3-hour sessions a week · 15 week program
Eligible participants may be signed up for Deferred Prosecution, which consists of Case Management services for either a 6 or 24 month contract. Random drug screens may be issued for an extra charge. Fee: $30.00/month Drug Screen: $25.00/screen
McLeod Center’s Educational Programs
Drug Education Program The Drug Education Program is an educational series offered by TASC in conjunction with the District Attorney’s office for certain alcohol, marijuana and cigarette-related charges. This includes Simple Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Purchase/Possession/Consumption of alcohol by person <19/20/21, Intoxicated & Disruptive, Purchase of Cigarettes by person < 18, Open Container, Public Consumption. The successful completion of this program will result in the dismissal of charges. Individuals currently on Supervised Probation or Deferred Prosecution are not eligible for a dismissal. Individuals may participate in the Drug Education Program one time. This program costs $200.00 which is paid before beginning class. Classes meet once a week for five consecutive weeks on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. Evening classes are from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, morning class is from 9:00am until 12:00. Participants must attend class on the same day each week.
CBI—Cognitive Behavior Intervention CBI—Cognitive Behavior Intervention Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) is a twelve hour program that focuses on improving decision making skills, conflict resolution and anger management. Participants will look for new ways to address future problems that will help a person make better choices and avoid negative consequences. The Cognitive-Behavioral program is designed to help clients accept responsibility for actions and behaviors in order to initiate changes in behavior. Clients are referred to the CBI program through the court system or probation due to legal charges. McLeod Center’s CBI Program consists of two groups per week for three weeks, either on a Monday/Wednesday rotation or a Tuesday/Thursday rotation. Evening groups meet from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, morning groups meet 9:30am until 11:30am. Cost of the program is $250.00 which is paid before receiving a start date. Program topics include Identifying Thoughts, Feelings, Attitudes, Values and Beliefs, Communication, Identifying & Responding to the Feelings of Others, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Choices & Consequences, Initiating Changes, and Accepting Responsibility.
Application Process: Screening for both the Drug Education Program and the CBI Program is done at 10:15am, Monday through Thursday at 800 East Fourth Street. This is the old Civil Courts building. Go to the second floor and wait in the hallway outside room 229. A screener will meet with you at 10:15am to explain the programs and have you complete some paperwork. Bring your citation/ticket with you. You will complete paperwork and speak with a TASC representative. This process takes about an hour to an hour and a half so please be prepared to stay for the entire process.
McLeod Center in co-operation with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department have launched a new program in an ongoing effort to diminish solicitation of prostitution in Charlotte. The “John School” is a therapeutic based twenty hour program which will address the “demand” side of prostitution. The John’s will undergo group counseling, lecture and education designed to focus on the moral, emotional and health consequences of soliciting prostitution. Fee: $300.00
“John School” Programming Includes · Two hours a week · Five week program · HIV Testing · Clinical Support · Case Management · Group counseling on the effects of prostitution for both “John” and Prostitute.
The Dealer’s Group is a therapeutic educational program designed for clients with criminal charges relating to the selling or trafficking of illegal narcotics. Clients will participate in group therapy, lectures and drug education. The Dealer’s Group is a “Closed Ended” group, meaning that all clients must start and complete the program at the same time. Phone Lab This program offers case management services for a 60-day monitoring period and a series of three random urine screens for which the client must show up. Fee: $150.00 Treatment Alternatives to Street Crimes Treatment Alternatives to Street Crimes, or TASC, is an alternative to incarceration for alcohol and/or drug involved offenders. It is a bridge between the criminal justice system and the substance abuse treatment community. Under TASC supervision, community-based treatment is made available to drug-dependant offenders to permanently interrupt the cycle of criminal behavior due to addiction. A TASC Court Liaison will facilitate communication between the legal and treatment systems, and will monitor the client’s progress and report that progress to the courts as necessary. Case Management for High-Risk Offenders This program begins with a clinical assessment of an offender’s substance abuse or mental health needs. The offender is matched with the appropriate treatment program dependent on the most appropriate level of care and intensity. Referrals are made to the appropriate service providers. Case management services provide continuous monitoring, including random drug screens. Fee: $120.00 Phone Lab This program offers case management services for a 60-day monitoring period and a series of three random urine screens for which the client must show up. Fee: $100.00 TASC Assessments Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday 8:30 am to 12 pm. No appointment is necessary. Anyone is eligible for the TASC program if they have a legal charge, a substance abuse problem and are willing to participate.
